THAT’S WHERE I WAS WHEN IT HAPPENED- MY FACE 4 TIMES
In this series of photomontages, I wanted to develop further the questions that I began asking myself earlier this year: Who am I? Where have I been? Where am I going? Inspired by the works of Robert Houle and Rosalie Favell, I have explored the symbols and stereotypes which surround my identity. This work appropriates pop culture symbols and archival photos from both Canadian archives and the Museum of the American Indian, combined with personal photos from my own government identification cards and screen captures from old family videos. The result represents my identity- an amalgamation of cultures, symbols, stereotypes, and contradictions.
